Leads

The PTC-IIusb comes with a standard USB 2.0 lead length 1.8 metres long. If the supplied lead is not long enough then an extension lead is required.

If using the PTC-IIpro or PTC-IIex for position reporting a Y lead is required.

The normal length of the supplied leads from the SSB transceiver to the Modem is 1.5 metres. SailCom Marine can supply custom made leads to any reasonable length, please call for details.

PC Compatibility

Many new PCs do not support serial ports, only USB ports. The serial port is required to connect between the PC and PTC-IIex and PTC-IIpro modems and is also required if you plan to connect a GPS NMEA data to the PC. SailCom Marine can supply you a serial to USB connector suitable for use with SSB radio and works with the SCS PACTOR modems and most PCs.

HF SSB Antennas Accessories
Good radio communications require a good antenna system. SailCom Marine supply ground plates, copper strip and SSB whip antennas to suit most marine SSB installations.

Ground plates A good antenna system requires a good ground, on a yacht this means having a good connection to salt water. On the fiberglass yacht this is achieved by fitting 1 or 2 ground plates. At SailCom Marine we believe in fitting the very best which are Dynaplates made in the USA.

Copper strip should run between the ground bolt on the Dynaplates ground plate to the antenna tuner (ATU).

Ground DC isolation Grounding isolation bridge is required to stop or reduce electrolysis on boats that have a negative floating DC supply, e.g. negative is not connected to salt water. The bridge blocks DC currents going to salt water via the ground plate. The bridge goes between the ground bolt on the antenna tuner (ATU) and the copper strip.

Antenna Cable When transmitting, a very high voltage may be found at the bottom of the antenna. Therefore the cable between the ATU and the whip or backstay need to be a high voltage cable.
At SailCom Marine we recommend that EHT 25,000 volt cable is used. The cable we supply is a higher specification than the American GTO15 cable and conforms to BS specification.
